Decided to head down to the fin for my first time this season. Intentionally missed the public opener yesterday. Got to the lake around noon with my son. Used power bait from the docks and had slow and steady bite.

Landed a total of 5. Farmed one and gave one away. Had the poles loaded up and was on my way out by 4:15. All were quality fish as you can see from the picture below.

As I pulled up to the gate, I saw a guy with a Toad on a stringer. A 13+# toad. Stopped and made some short conversation. He was wearing one of those Jerkit shirts and proceeded to introduce me to a guy by the name of Tony who happened to catch a state record the day before.. He spends a lot of time working at the club and helping out and was also privlaged to pre-fish the lake with the DFG. He and his friend clearly know their game. As I was talking to Tony marveling at the news paper report on his state record and checking out a picture of it, his buddy hooked into another double digit toad (and landed it).

I know for sure what bait I will be trying next time I'm at the fin. Nice guys and some REAL nice fish!

Below is a picture of Tony with his record.. Also is a picture of my stringer before it met the oven..

There has to be bass pushing the 35lb mark in that lake, considering how large the planted trout are, LOL.
