Jumped aboard the Tortuga out of Marina Del Rey with 12 other anglers. Capt. Jeremy and Dylan as the lone deckie. Cool kid, he works on the new del mar. Plan was to hit Malibu first then back down to the stones in Santa Monica. We had live squid.
First stop a PB'er was anchored, so we moved up by malibu pier. Just as we set anchor we see that they have moved from the spot. Go back down to the spot he originally wanted to fish. Good call. Didnt take long for them to bite. Toads were landed left and right. Sheez JP contenders in the first hour. I was having a hard time getting bit, but i did land my only cappofish. :Surprised:
We move again after the bite died, headed down to SM, we see the Spitfire and New Del Mar anchored up along with a few PB'ers. Way too many perch bites, move again. We found a good spot, bite is hot. Love seeing the bites continue down the rail, just wait your turn.
I got broken off on 30#, so I go to my trusty rope. Get rocked hard and this bugger wont budge. Finally got him out and it fought me all the way up. We knew this might be the JP fish but it was still early to call it. We finished out the day with a good count. I didnt limit out, got about 5 bass. This one guy fishing a light setup and a citica reel got early limits. We wrapped it up early and weighed up. It was really close, they had to weigh it several times but everyone agreed my fish won. It was about 5#s. Woo hoo.
Gave the JP $$ to the crew and got a free pass to the New Del Mar. The Tortuga is a good boat for smaller charters. No galley so bring your own food and brewskis.
Sorry for the lack of pics. Thanks for reading.
