Before I begin, let me write that I created this account before I started to really explore the site. Therefore, my username was created before I saw Troutman65, so I apologize for that.

On Sunday, January 25th, I decided to hit up the San Gabriel River. I arrived around 7am and headed out on the trail. About 4 miles in I started to fish and was overwhelmed by the number of pools. (This was my first trip to the region) I probably caught 20+ fish, mostly in the 6 inch range. All were caught on a 3wt fly rod using a small prince nymph (not sure about the exact size) All fish were released safely.

I am still getting used to the uploading of pictures from photobucket, so I apologize if they are not formatted correctly.

Nice going on the fish and wildlife. Was thinking of heading up there on Sunday but backed out. I figured that after all the rain that we had that it would have been muddy, Looks nice and clear.

That is gorgeous. I have been meaning to try up there, but heard bad things about the safety of the area. Good job on releasing the natives!

Wow! In all my adventures up there (not bragging, but there have been quite a few), I have never seen a sheep. Always knew they were around, just never saw one. Nicely done!
And good job on the wild fish. I undertand that they get rather large the farther back you go (if that's the West Fork, although sheep would be in the East...)
Whatever, very nicely done on both fronts!

Nice shot on the Bighorns. You are lucky to have had a chance to be that close to them. They are very elusive, and pretty rare these days too. Nice trout too.

Took me a minute to find the sheep in that pic. I am up there quite a bit and have never seen one...

Thanks for the replies

The camera is a Sony dsc-S750...it's a small digital camera that costs roughly $170.
I was on the east fork....if that's the one that ventures up to the bridge to nowhere.
I was actually hiking with a friend with I saw a large animal run through the river. It was so quick I didn't get to see what it was. About 15 minutes later I was fishing the river and I heard several large rocks tumbling down, and then I saw the sheep.
I've heard bad stories about that area too, but the parking lot at the east fork looked decent, so I just figured the car is relatively safe in a lot, rather than on the side of a road.

There is room for a lot of Troutman's on this site. Age is just a number, right?

Troutman65 was born in 1965. Were you born in 1927?

The pics are great. The sheep look like they froze just for your shot. And the trout look great too.

Keep the reports and pics coming. Fish porn is always welcome.

Good job TM27.. I've been up there (bridge to nowhere) and you're right, there are a handful of pools. I personally caught two (not rainbow, more like wild) trout last time (and first time) I went. If you go allll the way up past the bridge to nowhere, you will find some really cool and big (bigger than the ones on the way up) pools.

BTW: The pics were awesome dude. Beautiful pics. Me and my buddies also saw some bighorns last time we went. It's crazy to see them when they aren't behind a separate (aka the zoo).. You're almost afraid they're gonna charge, but they are actually pretty dossal creatures..
