It was a nice, calm afternoon when we got to Seaforth to board the Endeavor for our trip down to Colonett. Everyone was there by 4 so we left the dock at 4:30, got bait and were out of the harbor by 5:15. It's good when your group shows up early so you can leave ahead of schedule but Mark on the Pacific Voyager looked at us enviously as we left the dock so I could see his competitive/captain side come out of him so I knew something was up. Well, low and behold, who do we see ahead of us already fishing, non other than our captain Mark. We must have easily had a 2 hour head start but someone just had to get there first. LOL. I thought that was kind of funny. Don't worry though, the Endeavor fishes hard as we were easily the farthest down as we probably went 130-140 miles south while most of the other boats were fishing closer to 100 miles.

Fished the yellows in the morning for 3. One was a good 20 lbs and the rest around 10. Threw out my lucky blue and white CP 105 and started yo yoing. When I say favorite, I mean it as this thing has been through the wringer, has one of the treble hooks broken off and catches yellows better than any jig I've ever had. It survivied a 5 day in the Indy and numerous1.5 trips so I was bummed when I hooked one and then the line just broke. Oh well. It got me a nice bonito though. Thanks for the memories my little CP.

Well, did that for a little while and then we started fishing the cod. I was fishing the jax and a while curly tail gulp on a dropper but it was not producing as usual so I broke down and fished bait for lots of nice fat reds, salmon groupers, a nice ling, a chili pepper and boscos. There were two nice cows caught too. During lunch, Jason made some great cheesburgers but when challenged to make some fries, he did just that in the oven and they were were awesome with the burgers. Prime rib on the way home was also good.

Coming back, the wind started blowing and it was an uphill pounding in the early evening and it mellowed out a little in the early morning. Still, it was the type of swell that you would never want to be in in a small private boat. Close interval wind chop on top of a wind swell. To give you an idea of how far down we went, while the rest of the fleet where all snug and comfortable eating their pancakes and reading the Sunday paper at home, we were just getting in around 9 AM. Though I didn't get a yt, I got plenty of fish and being out on the water by itself is worth it and the Endeavor came through as always. If you want a professional crew who's always there to bag your fish, untangle lines, keeping the boat clean and making sure everyone is catching fish, I highly recommend the Endeavor.

Sounds like a great trip. Pics!?!

You guys did go a little off the beaten path. The popular 150ft seamount that all the boats seem to congregate at for early morning yellows is exactly 112 miles from PL...so it sounds like you guys fished the south end (just past the landmark peninsular cliff) of that long shoal thats punctuated with seamounts. A little bit more and you'd be at Isla San Martin! LOL

Nice report. Those yellows are bound to show up on your line someday. Keep trying.

As long as the cow cod is over 18, I think the fish porn is legal. LOL.

Sorry, no pics.
