I was thinking of getting a kayak, then I ran into an ad for a boat. It's a '77 Glastron with a 85hp Johnson. The seller has informed me that the only problem is the starter. Seller is asking $600. Anybody know about these boats and if it's a good deal? Thanks in advance.

Inexpensive boats often turn into the most expensive boats.

I think I will be waiting for you at the dock at about 9 am.

A friend bought one and it is in the proccess of being fixed up now.

It will make a great beater boat that doesn't need to be pampered.

Look out for dry rot in the transom, floorboards and stringers.

Mine is a 78 Glaspar and works great!! Depends on how it was treated. If it runs and stays floating...buy it!! I love my boat even though its old and oxidized lol

I would be very wary of boats that are selling that cheap. As mentioned before you need to look at rot as well as the hull. If you can do a test run before you buy even better. As for the motor, are you and the person sure its the starter? Often times it can be more than that. I would be prepared to spend a couple grand fixing it depending on the nature of teh boat and motor....

i'd be looking for a sixteen foot aluminum with a welded hull (klamath or gregor-doesn't need to be new, they last forever with our dry weather) and a decent outboard. there's not much you can hide with a setup like this, and you should be able to get something pretty nice for about $1500 in this economy.

Yep, majority of the aluminum boats I see seem to be in the $2000-$2500 price range. While on the subject of aluminum boats, anyone ever heard of Starcraft boats? I'm supposed to call a guy this week to check it out. It's an older boat, but I figure what can you hide in an aluminum boat, right?
