I am not in the market for a new trout rod..

But I hear good things about the new AMP rods by Berkley???
Would like to try one out, and they are cheap....
7', one piece, would be right for trouting IMHO...

i have a gl2 781 loomis rod that i use with bait for trout. im not sure which 781 one it is tho..the rod is blue if that helps. anyways, its light enough to have fun with small fish but enough power to haul in bigger fish.

personally, for lures, i like to use 6 ft rods with medium action (the loomis rod is a lil too soft to set with lures imo)

Another thing i noticed, Rods labled (Trigger) are these rods more for a bait cast set-up or just for the little trigger on the handle for comfort? Sorry im a noob when it comes to rod set-ups i usually just buy whatever looks nice lol.

You are correct, that is a bait casting pole.

How about a kencore? The yellow ones go for a little over a $100 and the black (aka tiger) for closer to $40. Shimano "spinmatics" are a nice rod for under $40....just depends on what you want to spend and what type of trout fishing you plan on doing, ie. bait n wait, casting hardware, working mini jigs etc.

It boils down to how much cash you want to spend.
For the money i have to agree with Nessie Hunter & Troutdog. The Berkley Amp Rods & the Daiwa Spinamtics are excellent rods for the money.

If money is no object there is nothing better then the new Phenix Rods. Simply amazing Rods and new line they came out with.

Shimano Compre spinning rods make great trout trolling rods too.

You could kill two birds with one stone.

Angler, Just hit up wally mart. You can get a cheap graphite rod with a lite tip and medium center section about 6' to 7' long. Why spend all that money on a rod. But, a good reel with a smooth drag is important. Spend money on a decent reel. To be honest, Trout are not large. Any cheap rig will work for a long time for trout. It is not like catching tuna where the best rig is important. :) Happy Fishing!

A good rod for trout fishing is a FLY ROD!!! Just kidding. I have a shimano compre and it is pretty nice... Like everyone else is saying, just depends on how much you wanna spend

I've been using the same Eagle Claw Denco Super IV. 6 ft since the early seventies for trout.
Never had any problems with it except for replacing the tip a couple times.

I have 2 Kencor pac73 rods that were custom wrapped that I wouldn't trade for anything. I have Stella's on both of them with 4lb p-line and they are great Trout rods for jigging or bait. Turners has them for about $140.00

Check out the Berkeley Tactix rods (about $50). I bought the 7' 2-piece ultralight and it is very good for jigging.

Phenix makes the best trout rods hands down. I have tried trout rods from St. Croix, Shimano, G. Loomis, Daiwa, and Kencor and the Phenix Elixir trout rods are a lot better. They have the best taper for SoCal trout, and their quality and looks are, IMO, better than the other companies. I go into detail in the above thread, but if you are looking for the best jigging rod pick up an 801 and if you want an all around rod go for the 802. They are $200 and up though, but if you were checking out G. Loomis then price probably is not big concern. Match it up with a Saros 1000 and 3lb line and you are good to go.

Check out http://www.bubbashotrods.com/ . I have been using their custom wrapped rods for years. They have all been awesome for me. They are reasonable too! Good prices.

Well Bps thx for all the info on them Phenix rods. In the link to the other post you pretty much nailed what im looking for, I think the 802 will be more for my tastes since i mainly trout fish with Kastmasters/spoons.
Now i just need to find a store that actully has them in stock so i can feel it out and see if it feels right for me. I dont wanna chuck a good 200-300 dollars on a rod just by its looks ya know.

Man those Burl wood inserts on the elixer series are hott !!!

just curious... you said phenix rods have the best taper for SoCal trout. What rod has the best taper for NorCal trout?

My bad DCC. I guess I wasn't clear enough. What I mean is that Phenix has the best taper for SoCal style trout fishing (ie mini jigs, split shotting trout worms, dropshotting them, Kastmasters, spinners, spoons, etc). There is no difference between the trout in NoCal and SoCal, it's just that the soft plastic techniques for trout gained their popularity in SoCal. Hence, SoCal style trout fishing.

Are you fishing from shore with PB???? Are you jigging??? Trolling ???? It depends how you want to fish for trout. There are many rods and reels but they all work for different sittuations. If your looking for just a basic all around trout rod that's cheap go to bass pro shop or turners and ask them for 4lb line and a spinning light rod and reel combo.

Mostly gona be fishing with Kastmasters.Spoons,Spinners from shore i already have a little cheap Bill dance quantum combo for PB fishing that does its job well

Went to Bass Pro earlier today to check out the G-loomis trout series rods but to my luck they didnt have any:( I did get to check out some other Loomis rods though and where pretty sweet and felt nice. I then asked the associate if they had any tout series rods in the back. He went and checked but nothing.I asked about the Phenix rods and he pretty much convinced me to go with the phenix BUT Bass Pro dont carry them. He then started tellin me that alot of people been going in asking for them so Bass Pro is going to pick them up soon he said by spring they should be selling them. Something about how BPS is based out of mississippi so they dont really get the Hot local stuff like phenix and Kencor. He was actually very informing and knowledgeable not like some other dumb ***'s i have talked to there. He told me he had a 7' phenix that was his baby when it came to trout. So i guess im heading over to get a phenix rod most likely next week when i hunt them down.

LOL 3 pages of advice and the OP buys a TV!!! ha. dude seriously just get one of those 5'2'' kencor trout rods "wellfairfisherman" is selling on the forsale board. For $30 you can't really go wrong. I bought two and use them for EVERYTHING. Bait-mini jigs-spinners-dropshot power worm. I've had no complaints so far.

If you're willing to spend about $200 for a good long trout rod then go for sme Phenix rods. The rods are about 8ft in length and have great strength they are also very strong.
