Went to Seaforth Last Sunday to do some squiding. Was very slow for the first 2 hours. We were fishing 1500 ft for 3 squid. Then moved to about 600 ft and in 30 minutes the whole boat hooked up. It was chaos. The boat ended up with 160 I think. It was fun but crankin those 1.5 lb. squid jigs from 1000+ ft put a hurt on my back. We caught 3 from 30 to 40 lbs. Enjoy the pics...

Thanks for killing a few of them POS fish eaters.

I used to think that it might be fun to catch some of them things, but after hearing that you were fishing in over 1,000 feet of water I think I will pass for now.

Thanks for the report/pics.

Ah come on, dude! Giant squid don't move into the shallows at night and eat all the bass they can catch do they???

I put straight 65 lb. braid on my JX 2 speed. There was at least 400 yards on it. No leader or topshot.

My buddy that happens to be Thai, marinated it in lemon, garlic, salt, pepper, maggi original, and other spicy peppers. Then we made squid kabobs and threw em on the grill. He also made some sort of spicy sweet Thai sauce. It was bomb!

I was catching some squid on the Pacific Star out of Seaforth this summer. We were gonna go for rockfish, but the squid wouldn't let us get anywhere near the bottom. We only had to drop maybe 40 feet and it was wide open. I had so much tuna I decided not to keep the squid, but after that Thai recipe above I think I'd keep one next time...

They've haven't destroyed our fisheries enough yet?

To be excited about fishing squid, you must have never been.

Or maybe some people just enjoy catching squid? The captain of the boat was having fun catching the squid and I guarantee he's caught more than most people ever have.

Dang are they back? I went with my girlfriend and a buddy of mine two years ago. I just waited until they were around 40-80ft of water, any lower than that have fun....I had a pretty good time at first but man after a couple of them you just want to go in already. Oh and be sure to bring extra jigs, and I don't recommend using anything lower than 40lb or maybe even 50.
