Once again, dad and I got down to the Redondo Sportfishing office early, got a decent spot, and boarded the boat, and we were off to the races. Our crew today consisted of Capt. Steve-O, Devo cooking up some awesome food, the hard working Morgan on deck, and the surprise guest deckie Long Range Bobby K helping out.
Ran up the bay to the stones for some pretty good bass fishing. Our first spot was all right, a few nice calicos came up, and some sandies here and there, but nothing really substantial. So, we moved on to our second spot. It took a while, but once we settled and found the rock, it was wide open. Most of these bass were 2+ pounds. Very important to pull them out of the rocks quickly here.
Now here's a true fishing story. My dad is using 10# test with a scampi and squid, and hooks a nice fish, but of course, gets broken off in the rocks. About a 1/2 hour later, I'm using my 30# with the leadhead/live squid combo, and I pull a nice fighting fish out of the rocks. Turned out to be a big ol' grumpy sand bass, and it had my dad's scampi down its gullet. At least he knows now what got away!!

That bass weighed 5 1/2 pounds. Nicest grumpy I've caught in a long time. After that excitement, some nicer bass were caught in the 3-4 pound range. But, this spot soon wore out, so on to the next one. The next one also produced some nice bass, but the bite withered. We tried one last one before we went home, and it had some nice bass on it, and threw a couple more on board.
We ended up with around 130 bass. I did win jackpot with that nice sand bass, and gave the money to the crew. It was a beautiful day out on the water. Great times and outstanding fishing!
