Ron, I like your idea of making the DFG cite everyone individually.

Thanks for the report.

If you turn the line around and get a big fish aren't you just as likely to lose it?

For the closure of rockfish season does the Treefish fit in that category?

Hi supasportkid,

Thank you. Yes ... can you imagine someone like me that doesn't keep fish being given such a ticket !!

Hi AmbassadorHawg,

Thank you. I have caught them before on the straight plastics .... even bigger actually but that guy made my day. In order to save him ... or her ... from the ravanous Pelicans I took it to the bow and returned the fishy head down !! Boy ... disappeared in half a second !!

Hi Ifishtoolittle,

Absolutely ... the Treefish is considered a Rockfish and not to be kept. I cheated a little and took a quick picture before un-hooking and safely returning fishy at the bow into the water.

Some fish species .... I'll try to get the deck to not even bring on deck !! There is no excuse to bring a Bat Ray on board.... short halibut ..... BSB .... Sharks (unless someone is going to eat them) or any over limit fish ...... especially WSB who get stressed quickly.

That big Whitefish also went back in the water as soon as unhooked and pic taken. The crew was pretty good about trying to deny the Pelicans the small fish that seemed like they'd survive their return trip home.

Another great report as usual. Totally agree on the DFG thing. Seems like the rules are, at best, confusing as you point out. Also, 195(e)(6) says a fisherman may not possess more than the bag limit, upon completion of the trip. It also says the trip is not complete until the fisherman gets off the boat. So how does DFG cite someone for over the limit while he is still on the boat? Could it be DFG is trying to extort money to help balance the budget??? Afterall, what is the boat to do? Either pay for everyone or lose its future customers. Should only have been one citation to the boat for taking fish to give to fill out the limit.

Hi Shioda,

Very nicely put ........in a single, short paragraph !!

I suspect it was 90% intimidation and 10% trepidation !!

Thank for the valued comments ..... as always,
