Very Nice.

You are in the ballgame now. Go easy with your first few casts of those big baits. You can get a professional overrun that will bring tears to your eyes in a hurry. I would recommend going to youtube and watch videos of guys fishing big swim baits or irons in the ocean to get the pendelum action down for those big baits before you go attack the waters! Keep us posted. You can PM me with any ?'s you may have as well.

Go gettum!

Mistery,

What does that rod say on it?

What lure rating? 1-3oz? 3-5oz? etc...
What is the line rating? 15-25?
What's the action? M, MH, H XH?

Can't say I know the rod...who makes it?

Killer reel dude way to go....now your on the right path.

I sent you a PM also....

Looks like you took my advice on the reel and some! The Calcutta is a very nice reel.

I've never heard of the rod, but as long as it can handle up to 8oz baits, you will be in good shape when it comes time to chuck that BBZ.

Good luck with it!

Very nice setup, Calcutta's rock!

I take my 201B (the smaller size) fishing for rockfish, and it just pulls and wont stop.

Do practice casting, make sure that your reel's release tension (how fast the line comes off the reel), or whatever it is called, is set right. You just want the line to fall of not too fast. Once you can cast well you might wanna send the reel into Shimano to get it oiled and surfaced because you can cast 2x further when you do!

I see a future of big bass coming you way! Have fun :Big Grin:

Leave the Big BBZ in the box...you're still just a little under gunned for tossing big baits.

Have a good time out there and don't harrass them pudd bass too much...can't wait to see you post your pic's of the bass caught on this rig.

Tight lines.

It is good on line rating, but as for lure, you're not gonna be able to throw the big baits. You can get by with smaller swimbaits on there though.

The rod won't break, LilMystery, but it'll be underpowered a tad, in my opinion.

The rod I use for my BBZs, Tools, Hudds, Triple Trouts is rated for 20-50#, and for 1-7oz baits.

The first thing I recommend you do with that CalcuttaB is open it up and set the centrifugal brakes to at least '3 on.' That'll minimize the backlash potential and head aches. Once your thumb becomes 'trained,' you can turn them to '2 on.' The knob on the side of the Calcutta is your cast control knob. You can use that to adjust how easily the spool spins. Ideally, when your starting out, you want to tie the bait you are using, and put the reel into free spool. You will then adjust the control knob so that bait comes off slowly, and does not cause too much of a backlash when it hits the floor.

Good luck!

The fast sink is 5.3 and I think the slow sink is 4.8.

good deal bro glad you did the right thing! just take small easy cast with it first till you get the hang of it than give it hell and let it fly! haha dont worrie or get mad backlashes happen i still get them but not as often as i used to haha.. but be prepared for skunks! theres only one secret to throwing big baits and i guess ill let you in on it...go out on the water and throw them ALL DAY LONG! dont give up keep tossing them walk the shore line fan casting or get a boat but keep tossing them thats it.. thats the big secret haha..good luck bro swimbait fishing is fun even though skunks come around more often it will be worth it all in the end..

throw that BBZ shad a while before you mess with the trout. there's a huge difference between 2oz and 5oz. that rod is going to "load up" a lot when you try to throw a bait that heavy (and the rod can certainly break) which means there will be so much bend in the rod that it will be had to get that bend to straignten out at the time you need it to (perfectly matching the point at which you release your thumb to let the spool start spinning). it will be much easier to control the amount of bend that the lighter bait will put in the rod (the amount its designed to have).

now thats a swimbait setup... although I'm sticking with my original opinion that you should have just got a regular baitcaster and practice with worms and cranks before moving to that...

learn how to "walk the dog", again should have practiced with a regular baitcaster first... but to each his own right?
