is a sabiki (sp?) rig the best way of catching mackerel from a pier? what pound line is best for catching them and also what size hooks? it seems people use small bits of shrimp a lot, is that best?

If you want to load up on macks get the bigger sabikis cause when you get 3 or 4 on there they can break off the hooks on the smaller ones. You can tip it with squid or shrimp i use squid cause i have zip locks full of them in my fish freezer. If the macks are there you really don't need to put anything on the hooks but if there not biting tip the hooks with small pices of bait not to big to cover the hooks you will catch every thing with them....Good luck making bait.

I like using squid becomes it stays on the hook most of the time, but mackerel will chow down on just about anything

Awesome thanks for the advice. Is there a best time to fish for them? Day? Night?
