First time posting in a long time.
anyways this is a late report. I went aboard the Matt Walsh 1/2 day out of LA harbor last week on 1/06/08
to some up things. we fished pretty much all we can fish for: the perch and bass. we fished right outside the harbor using strips of squid or whole dead squid on lead heads for bait. for the first part of the trip we fished for the perch. two hooks with the sinker at the bottom. nothing wide open but consistent on the perch. i tried to stay away from that and every time i pulled up something, it was something i couldn't keep.
this would've been a nice sheephead.

in the afternoon, we really went after the bass. again we were just outside the harbor. i decided to switch to a lead head with squid. the bite was pretty slow. some sculpin here and there mixed in with the bass. overall it was ok. i didn't think i'd catch anything heading into this trip but i ended up with 3 bass and 2 perch.

BTW, i contended for the jackpot with a sand bass and lost to a sculpin.

as for the other report, i went out on 12/30/08 and it was slow. i went aboard the victory 3/4 day out of pierpoint and we pretty much targeted the bottom fish. for bait we had squid, mussels, and shrimp. shrimp was the key for big sheephead but some were caught on the squid. for the most part, there were some big goats and whitefish caught but overall the fishing was slow, if you don't count the countless tiny rockfish everyone caught and threw back into the water. i happened to catch two ok sized white fish and a small one and also and a barely big enough to eat rockfish. fishing sucked for me for my last trip of the year. again i wasn't expecting much but it did feel good to get out.
