Well, my little boy wanted to go fishing yet again. I figured the Pudd was gonna be a little tuff on the trout and probably a little crowded too so I thought better of it. I have been wanting to get up to the SGR to do some flyfishing cause I have a whole box of hand tied flies that I am itching to get some fish on... (Still looking to get that first trout on my creation). Asked Brett if he wanted to do some hiking and he was all for it. Now let me tell you... It takes a world of patients to work a section of stream with a fly rod... Now add a 4 year old into the mix. Not only do you have to crawl through the bushes to sneak up to a spot... You have to sneak him up too. He did really good though. He is a natural at rock hopping a stream. He understood the need to stay low and quiet. He was really cautious with the plants... ( I told him about the stinging knettle and it seemed like every plant we came across, he would ask "Is this the stinging one dad?")

Anyways, I tied on my home-made phesant tail nymph and started drifting it along the bottom (without an indicator). I came to some nice riffles running between 2 rocks and casted to the far side of the stream. About half way through the drift, my line stopped dead in its tracks. I figured I either snagged the bottom or it was a fish so I set the hook. To my surprise, I had a fish on. I was super stoked cause this was going to be my first fish on my hand tied fly. My son came running over, stumbling over rocks and spashing through the water. He wanted to reel it in of course. Ahhh, the dilemma... ha ha ha I really wanted to land that trout but then I thought how cool it would be if my son landed my first trout for me... So I handed him the rod... He fumbled with the fly reel trying to figure it out and gave the fish slack. The fish popped off... DOH!!!!!!! Didn't fish too much longer before Brett got hungry. Oh well, there is always next time. At least I know the fish are interested in my flies.

Ready to go. He wanted to hold the fly rod...
