My cousin calls and wants to go fishing. He says his boy is 6 now and he wants to get in the groove so he can take him out this summer and teach him. No Problem !! :Thumbs Up:

Just having been to Prado I had that destination in mind. He wants to catch fish but might only be available for a few hours of the morning. No Problem !! :Thumbs Up:

He asks if I have a Rod he can use since apparently he has never owned one. And he wants his friend to come along who needs a rod too. No Problem !! :Thumbs Up:

I shook the dust off my two 30 year old rods, Zebco Continental and a Zebco Omega closed reel setups. Takes me back to when I cut my teeth in the High Sierras... ( me in the orange shirt ) :Big Smile:

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/Twin%20Lakes%2076/TwinLakes76.jpg

I decided that I needed to take the rods somewhere where I could work on them, cast them, tear them apart. So I figured what better place than close to home. Sante Fe Dam.

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_164057AA.jpg

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_164114AA.jpg

I get there about 12pm. I run into an aquaintence of mine, Al. He's been a lot of places and has shared a few spots and adventures. He had been there about an hour and a half with no bites. And yet he says they just stocked the shorty's an hour ago.

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_141029AA.jpg

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_141000AA.jpg

I brought my "catching" rods to dip in the H2O whilst I have my way with the two old betty's. :Fishing Hole:

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_141018AA.jpg

My flash backs again to the High Sierras makes me think of when my Step Dad would only use Zeke's Sierra Gold Trout Floating bait. Well all be damned would ya know? ... I had some. :Applause:

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_165303AA.jpg

I prepared my first "catching" rod with ol' Zeke's ( Lime Green ) and cast her out. I tightened the line and " BOOYAH " one pan sized hook-up. :Fishing Catch:

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_141111AA.jpg

Al is shakin his head wonderin why he got up this morning. Then I prepare that rod again. I cast her into open water. I set up my other "catching" rod (same bait) and cast her into the liquid calm.

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_164037AA.jpg

" BOOYAH " the first rod goes off again with yet another Tiny Tim. :Fishing Catch:

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_150853AA.jpg

I return to my craft of the set up on the first rod and ... " BOOYAH "
The second rod gets " Bentendo " on me. ( Yes I created that word ) AL looks at me like WTF. And I'm feeling like Bill Dance and wonderin where the camera is because I need to start giving the play-by-play. :Fishing Catch:

I hadn't time to get a shot of the third because there was a Fourth Oompaloompa sized Trouty beggin for " stringer jerky ". :Fishing Catch:

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_161219AA.jpg

Suddenly there was a calm.... Whew! ... Now I had time to set the ol' rods up for tomorrow. As I worked thoughs, I met Chris and Dan. They were almost scooping the trout out by the shovels. :Not Worthy:

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_151922AA.jpg

Chris was using Berkley Power Worms ( orange ) and splitting them in half. He used a number 10 single hook and made a jig of it. Him and Dan were casting, Jigging, and tossing into bucket. They definitely had the Force with them. :UDaMan:

I finished the ol' rods and wondered if I would get my limit by 5pm closing. Finally I started packing up at 4:50p and got to my last rod in water. Reeled about a quarter way and stopped...... one last tease to see if anything followed it...... nib, nib, POP .. " BOOYAH " it was 5 fish at 5pm. :Fishing Catch:

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_171410AA.jpg

The sun set and the land was at peace again.:Farmer:

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_164258AA.jpg

The ducks did a jig for me and bid me safe journeys.:No Pity: ( yes talking Ducks )

http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/djslider64/Sante%20Fe%20Dam/2009_0108_165433AA.jpg

I walked to the car thinking back that this all started from wanting to fix my ol' betty's. I was a bit giddy and started thinkin' .....

Really nice pics Dan. I especially liked the throwback from the 1970's/early 80's? Reminds me of when I was just a young tot.

Nice, I rode through there on my bike on Sunday around 2pm. not very many people, and no one had any thing going! It's good to see that fish can be had there. Now go and catch some in that other hole on Peck!

:Envious:

Yeah! I'm pretty green with Envy! Me old Santa Fe Dam hasn't been very good to me as of late. Particularly this Summer when I got stuck in the weeds in the Porta-bote nd had to be pulled out by the lifeguards.

Excellent Report! Gonna be really hard not be standing in your spot tomorrow morning!
