First off i want to say thank you to everyone that came out today...it wasn't a great day to fish but we still manage to get 9 participants in today's tourney (seng90806, crappiemike, Red Drum + friend, d1ledhed + friend, castaway, exfactor, and pasadeniafishin)...after check-in our mission begins and everyone went their separate ways.

Today's whether was cold and windy at times...fishing wasn't all than great unless you were on exfactor's boats which took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the tourney...everyone else came back empty handed with no fish to weigh in....

-First place went to Exfactor with 3 crappies and 2 gills totaling 6.14lbs

-Second place went to Vince "Red Drum" with 4 gills totaling 1.52lbs

-Third place went to Castro catching 4 gills totaling 1.24lbs

me and cm tried the deep, the shallow, the drift, the bait and wait, the crappie jigs, with no luck at all.

only got a couple snap shot because my phone went dead on me:

Here is the winning crew:

Pasadeniafishin working the shoreline in his tube...this kid is amazing when it comes down to fishing:

Congraduations Mike!!! He was the first place winner (his stringer weigh in at 6.14)

this sucker weigh in at 2.2lb:

overall it was a great experience and im glad everyone had a great time...i know it wasnt very well organize but we'll make sure the next one is bigger and better...i'll wait for the wether to warm up a little before doing another one....once again thanks to everyone that showed up

Thank you d1ledhed for donating those jigs to be given to the winner...im pretty sure exfactor will put them to use because those are some nice looking jigs you made

Those are nice slabs.

Catching panfish in the winter time be it slabs or gills can be challenging at times. But that is what can make for a good tournament and the winners definitely deserves it when they can come up on something during that time. As far as the organization, you learn as you go. Best thing to do is put one on and learn from that experience and make the next one better. Good job though. I like the idea of panfish tournaments I had side pots for those in my past events. If you would like to do a collaboration for some El Capitan slabs in the future let me know. I am thinking about something like that this Spring like in April.

Looks like a good turn out for the first tournament!
Maybe somebody can write a book and show us how to catch So Cal slabs in the winter. All the In-Fisherman and professional stuff I read is for places like Minnesota.

Thanks guys for the kind words. This was the first time I've been to Perris. With the lake being down about 50 feet, the structure was difficult to find. We prefished Saturday for one bluegill. I found what I was looking for Sunday by the cement pier. We ended up with 10 b luegill's, 3 crappie, and a catfish. We fished 40 plus feet on edges. To catch fish in the winter requires you to be patient, and willing to drop and pull the anchor frequently, as well as knowing how to read your meter. Glad I had enough layers for the cold day. Trash talkin rites for a month......... priceless! Mikey

Well at least it seems like you guys still had a great time. Exfactor, way to go on the crappies, I was dripping saliva when I saw them and good job on the winning. I know what boat to ask to be on now. To the rest, I have a feeling the next tourney will have a much better curve for everyone. Too bad I missed on this one as my son was sick so I had to work, no excuses next time. Good job on all the efforts fellow TP!!!
