I have been really intrigued by you guys catching halibut out of the surf, and especially those of you that have pulled out other species, such as the white seabass, salmon, calico, etc.
I have been surf fishing since i was a kid. My uncle and I always used out ultra lite trout rods with 2-4 lb test. usually sand crabs was the bait of choice. My uncle used to do really well with a yellow rooster tail for the perch. Catching a 4-5 lb corbina on 2lb test is alot of fun.

I have thrown the LC a number of times and have only picked off a couple of small perch.
Is there a special retrieve that you do for the halibut? any twitch and pause, slow and steady, fast. for those of you that have caught halibut fromt the surf, what retrive method has worked best for you.
thanks
JC

Just a slow steady retrieve will do it. Location is more important. If they are there, they will bite the LC or a Drop shot.

i fish it on 15lbs line and i just slowly retrive it depending on the surf itself

the faster it moves the faster i retrive.

i just try to keep it swimming

Slow and steady retrieve with an occasional twitch is what I start with. Depending on which part of the retrieve I get bit on, I'll switch to that style. Use either braid or a lowstretch line, and as SOSO said, location is really important.

You should probably PM Ghettodad. I've been told he has massive luck surf fishing.

What size LC are you guys using? I bought a few of the 3 inch and i think i have a 3 1/2 or 3 3/4 inchers. I havent used them yet but just by looking at them, they seem awful big for these itty bitty perch to hit.

I've never used a LC , but with Krocs i use a sink and draw method
in a fan pattern from where i am standing....

Flash minnow 110s which are about 4.5in long. You are going for large perch (1ft long or more), halibut, and maybe some of the larger croakers when you use hard baits, so 10lb line is the minimum. Just go out and start tossing those lures. You will be surprised at how aggressive the perch will be.

Steady and fast enough for the wobble. It must wobble.
