Haven't fished the salt or posted a report in a while, so here it goes.

7:00-7:45: Started off this morning at the bridge on Newport boulevard
near the Elks Lodge. A few bites, but no takers.

7:50-9:30: We went to the other side of the bridge, and met a cool guy
who was trying to catch live bait(sorry, I forgot the name). Much to our
surprise we found some nice 3"-5" smelt being chased by birds. Me and
the guy chummed the water with bread & crackers and soon we had
about 10 pieces of bait. We were tossing them around the bridge and
dock piling for nothing, but all of a sudden the guy's rod goes off.
Seconds later he pulls up a nice 12"-13" spottie.

9:35-10:30: Bite totally shut down because of the slack tide, so we went
to check out some public beaches on Balboa Peninsula and docks on 19th
street and 15th street. Correct me if I'm wrong, but none of those places
looked fishy AT ALL.

10:35-11:00: Tried to settle down at M Street dock, but there were WAY
too many people, who each had out about 26 rods(you get the point).
But, there was an absolute MASS of baitfish, so we had to toss the
umbrella. Was getting about 5-6, 3"-4" smelt every pull so we were full in
about 10 minutes.

11:05-12:00: Went down the street to the Wedge to see if we could get
into that wide open hali bite we had earlier this year. Couldn't catch crap
so we were gonna take a break.

12:05-12:30: Subway break.

12:35-2:15: We still had a ton of great live bait left and theskunk so we
decided to head on down to Lido Island bridge. I was quite excited
because this place looked really fishy. Tossed some bait near the closest
docks for awhile, but nothing to show for it so we headed down the way
towards the actual bridge. Met two cool Vietnamiese guys who were
slaying the rays. Chatted for a bit then got to the real fishing. Tossed
a pole with live bait and a pole with mussels down there, and very soon
the mussel was hit. Ended up breaking the skunk with a 6" sandie. Not
content, I had to toss out another mussel. Once again, it was hit pretty
quickly. 6" sandie clone #2. It was just like that for a while and both of us
no longer stunk of skunk.

Total

Me: 6 Sandies 6"-8"
Dad: 4 Sandies 6"-9"

Bait

Mussels: 5 fish
Smelt: 5 fish

Was really hoping for a pig bass or a nice hali, but it was not meant to be. Next time I'm bringing the yak.

Until next time,

Not bad, you got some good action at least.
Thanks for the report, you need to hit the salt more often.
I couldn't get away this weekend at all.
