After being sick for a week and being home for the holidays, I was itching to go fishing. The original plan was to join Cappo, Larissa, and Osiito on the Spitfire on Friday, but the weather report sounded horrible, so I stuck it out at home one more day, and got to go fishing on Saturday. To save room, I put three reports into one thread.

Reel Fun AM 1/2 Day, December 27

Off a bit late due to switching boats because the 3/4 day didn't get out, we were off up north to see if we could find something to bite. In short, we ended up with several fat sculpin and a few nice treefish. All the people were very nice and there were not problems.

Clemente PM 1/2 Day, December 27

Off again on time, and we went south to try some inside spots to see if we could catch some sheephead. We started off fishing a boiler, which was covered with kelp, but we stuck it out. I ended up catching a nice sheephead. We then tried the kelp, where calicos were biting the little sardines that we had on the surface. I ended up winning jackpot with that sheephead, which weighed 3 pounds, 2 ounces.

Spitfire 3/4 Day, December 28

Dad and I got down to the landing early, where we were soon joined by Juan (Cappo), and a few other Spitfire regulars, including Said. Our crew would consist of Captain Anthony, Derrick in the galley, and Morgan on deck. We made it out with 11 anglers, and first order of business was to hit the sculpin hole before we went out to the rockfish grounds. After repositioning a few times due to the wind against current conditon, and a few sculpin later, Anthony decided to head out to the rockfishing grounds and let those conditions die off inside before we fished the bass.

Our first drift produced some chuckleheads, and after trying that a few more times, we hit some more drifts, which produced some reds, boccacio, and nice boscos. However, the rockfishing wasn't that great, so we went inside to fish the bass. The first spot on the inside was just like the morning, swinging all over the place, so we moved once again. This next spot was the honey hole. The leadhead with a whole squid with 25-30# test was the ticket, and some nice 2-5 pound grumpies came over the rail. But, it was my dad who got a 6# triggerfish and won the jackpot. He gave them the jackpot, and in return, gave him a Full Fare pass for another day!

Just another great, fantastic day on the Spitfire! Top notch crew, too.

Wow you got alot of fishing time this weekend. It was fun fishing with you and your dad. Today was just wierd, fish had lockjaw or something. But we did end up slaying a few bass. Congrats to your dad, that was a nice trigger.
