Steve's buddy Tim (FishNff) was down from WA for Holidays and Steve and I had already talked about getting him out on the water while he was down. We made some quick plans on Christmas Day to head out Friday afternoon with a crew of Steve, Tim and Steve's son Brad in addition to the two Hesbros. We arrived at Davies in Alamitos Bay at about 1430 to a 10-15 MPH NW wind, just as predicted. We went ahead and launched anyways with hopes that the wind would lay down in the evening. We headed over to Nacho's and got a very generous 1/2 scoop of dine for future hoop bait, and maybe some fishing before sundown. We tried anchoring up on some structure out in the harbor but could not get a good set due to the wind, so we went and hid behind one of the oil islands while we got the hoops ready and Tim and Brad got to do some fishing.

Here is a lil Barry that Tim got on a Swimbait.

The wind was not letting up and at time there were gust's over 20, but we were determined and conditions had not reached an unsafe level inside the harbor. I am sure it was nasty as heck on the outside. We dropped the hoops at about 1645 on the spot and Tim pulled his first ever set of hoop nets for lobster at 1800. Tim did a great job and picked up the routine in no time as if he had been doing it for years. The first set had 5 legals and no shorts. We reset the hoops and did some fishing in between.

Here is Steve and Brad fighting for the corner as if we were in a tuna bite. (J/K guys) Boy can you tell they are father and son out there! (Not J/K LOL)

Steve has mpre pics that I am sure he will post of the fishing, we did ok on Sandies and a nice sculpin.

The wind clocked around to North and then Northeast as night went on and slowed doen a bit. After the first set it seemed either the crawl had stopped or we were just missing them. we were getting a legal and shorts here and there. I think we did 6 more sets for some shorts and 2 more legals for one limit and called it a night around midnight with 7.

Tim pulled every set so it was easily decided by all on board that Tim would take home his first limit of Lobster.

Here is Tim with a couple nice ones.

Steve, thanks for the great company as usual and working the deck.

Brad, your "guns" can't get bigger from inside the nice and warm cabin!

Eddie and Rich,

Great job out there you two on getting us on some fish and bugs in conditions that chased most folks off the water.

Eddie,

Those conditions were not right for me to drive so you could pull buddy althouth glad to see you managed 1 while we were on the anchor!!!!!

Rich,

Sorry for the boring night and letting me take over your spot!! I will stick to the pulling next time as you keep it alot smoother from your normal location. Thanks for helping 2 rookies!!!!!!!

The conditions in the back ground of Tim's Cuda do not do justice of what it was like out there in the "HARBOR" while we were hunkering down!!!!!!!

Had we went all night it would have been ok also as things settled nicely. Too bad you had to get to work.

The Sunset.

Eddie, Steve, Rich and Brad...

I had a great time. Thanks for getting me on the buggs and fish. They were sooo damn tasty. You guys do it in style and make an out of stater feel welcome. That was as close to "Deadliest Catch" as I think I will ever get but it still was exciting.

Steve I know I owe you some serious lead heads and plastics. I swear that wreck had some sort of magnet that only affected what I casted. Add that to what I donated to the Harbor in August and I bet I need to outfit you with a whole tackle box full of stuff.

Thanks again guys and I hope to do it again soon...and by soon I mean as soon as I can get out of this frozen hell hole!

Tim, I knew you would fit right in as I know Steve's choice in friends and fishing partners. You are welcome on the "Hesbros" anytime you are in town. You know the drill, just PM me when you might be down and we will make the time. You worked hard for the lobster which made them taste even sweeter!
