I used to catch many trout in the E.Sierra on the Rainbow Twist Power Bait. So I guess that would be my favorite.

Marshmallow Cream Gulp Power Bait. Went through a jar and half this year. I even caught 5 catfish with this bait. The Gulp Orange was the second best.

I make my own out of dolphin chunks sprayed with WD40. You need to add a lot of Styrofoam to get it to float right though.

I've found that whale oil works better than WD-40, but it's getting harder to find.

Also, I hope you are using "tuna safe" dolphin. You know, the kind that are caught without injuring any of the tuna swimming below them.

i feel that when the water warms, the powerbait doesn't get me the bite it normally does... anyone else notice that?

No, but I do notice that at any given time on any given water, Powerbait doesn't get me the same bite as a good streamer with a sink tip line.

I keep about 6 jars in my trout/panfish bag.
I use different colors until I find the one that works.
I've found that different colors work at different times of the day in the same water.
Limit your thinking to one particular color and you limit your chances.
