I wonder if the narrator is still alive... and if he'd be willing to do the "Tilapia Titans of Balboa" video I'm workin' on.

There are still quite a few jig boats (jackpole) on the west coast and overseas.
Here are a few videos and a flicker slide show of a Matanza.

that last vid reminds me of the tuna pens off ensenada
(& may very well be )
although it looks like that vid was in italy somewhere
i remeber when the excel out of S.D. run into & on top of the tuna pens , when they finally were pulled from the pens the
" big question was posed " DID YOU CATCH ANY BLUFIN ???
I HAVE WATCHED THEM FEED THE TUNA IN THE PENS IT IS AMAZING SCENE TO WATCH THE PEN LITERALLY ERUPTS LIKE A VOLCANO

JDP,,,right you are Sir. That was in the Mediterranean. Not long ago, when the big Bluefin
were plentiful, they used to just net them and do their business in the net. Now the Bluefin
are smaller so they put them in holding pens until they fatten up then they do their blood
bath later.

Wow, that Flickr slide show is incredible. I wonder what kind of shot that guy was using to kill the tuna. Buckshot seems like it would do too much damage to the meat. But bird shot seems like it would leave a bunch of pellets left in the meat. Never seen that before, pretty eye opening.

Nope, that's William Conrad, famous Radio and TV Star. Died in 1994.
