If you are looking to catch macks just use sabikis rigs you can find them pretty much everywhere. They are extremely fun when you get a fish on all 6 hooks, but use a pretty decent weight sinker so the lines dont get all tangled up.

when I use them I dont put any bait, but I do see people puting a little bit of squid on when the bite is slow.

just chum up some anchovies to bring the school to you. drop a sabiki rig tipped with small pieces of squid....you should have no problem catching them. If you just want to have fun with them use 4#test and a Kroc. If you run out of squid or anchovies to chum you can always use cut mackerel...

the sabiki works great and once you catch the first mack you can slice off a few pieces to add to the hooks. Me and my buddies have found this increases our chances of getting the macks to eat especially the larger models.

Never tried it but heard using a krocodile lure instead of a weight on a sabiki rig works pretty good too
