i haven't targeted perch in a long time, but when i did i would use 1.5oz to 2oz pyramid sinkers. i would use 12lb. to 15lb. line because of the heavy weight. i caught lots of perch, but i'm starting to enjoy lighter line. this time i'd like to use 4lb. to 6lb. line and that's pretty light for 2oz weights. if i dropped down to 1/2oz. weights will that work in the surf or will it just be washing around in the waves?

ok i'll be honest, this is mainly because i don't want to re-spool my trout rods that have 6lb. backing :Big Grin:

depending on the conditions (wind, waves, current) 1/2 works for me on 6lb. and i usually fish pt. mugu for perchies.i havent needed to use anything heavier but using a heavier sinker would get you out farther and proly a bigger bite.....good luck!

"the perch rig"

6lb test, carolina rig, 1/2oz weight, #6 mosquito hook, fish crack(gulp) in camo sandworm.

Perch feed between the first and second wave , so casting out far
is pointless really.

In the summer , i just let the rig wash up on the beach , that way
you have a chance of a corbina
