Took some good friends out off the PV coastline yesterday on a pre-Bachelor Party trip. The barracuda were kind enough to make a showing and we got our fair share. We tried to get bait off the Bounty, but couldn’t find them. Fortunately, live bait was not a necessity. We ran out around Pt. Fermin and started trolling hydromags just past where the red tide ended. Almost immediately I spotted a baitball on the sonar, and we had our first fish of the day. Bachelor-boy Abbott did the honors:

A fleet of PB’s started “congregating around the sportboats, but we stayed a good distance outside the cluster, trolling up some nice sized logs averaging 5lbs. The sporties turned tail and ran up the coast towards Redondo and the fleet chased them. We ended up hanging out while most everyone else left. We spotted a huge bird school and started chucking iron. We chased the birds for about an hour, and everyone on board got hooked up.

In between shots of Patron, Bates managed to catch a fish or two:

Abbott scored the jackpot with this 10lb’er.

Abbott’s bro-in-law Greg caught his first saltwater fish:

I managed to catch a few myself, in between running the boat and handling everyone’s fish:

The only downer on the day was the fact that my 1yr old motor quit on me. It just sputtered out while idling after we ran up on a bird school. It would crank strong, but not fire up. Looked like it wasn’t getting any fuel. We called Vessel Assist, but they broke down themselves coming to get us. After an hour of drifting, Jack, our buddy-boater, offered to give us a tow back to Cabrillo.

It took two hours to get back to the lauch ramp, but we were running downwind, and enjoying the “fuel-savings. We even trolled up a few more cudas on the way. Vessel Assist dispatched another boat from MDR, but it never made it to us. When I called to let them know their services were no longer needed, they apologized profusely, and offered to comp me on my next renewal. Too bad I’d just paid through June ‘08 the day before.

All in all, it was a great day on the water with some good friends, and I’m sure Abbott had almost as good a time fishing as he did later that night at his party.

Good job sticking away from the pasture. Only the small Barries go inside and the bigger ones stay outside of the boil

Hi Boldfin,

Good job on the fish.

On your breakdown. Rode bikes wth Harley buddies ..... ''Misplaced Souls' I think that was the whole reason they rode ... to break down and have all those 'fixed it with toothpaste, a rubber band and a paper clip' in the driving snow at midnight stories! Ain't it the same with boaters!!??

Call 'em back and get that comp .... extended time!!

Yea .... I'm cheap but what if you had some more distressing problem. The USCG costs MONEY now!!
