Couldn't care less who the best Halibut fisherman on the board is.
I have met some fantastic "all around" surf fishermen out there, some of which don't even post on any boards. They have nothing to gain... nothing to prove. For the love of the sport, the way it should be.

Guys, please don't coin me as the best this or that. Let numbers and reports speak for itself.

Comparing me to Wingnut simply isn't fair. I've been surf fishing all my life, where as Wingnut just recently picked up the sport, has found great success and has even caught a fish from the surf (Silver Salmon) most will never catch.

As mentioned, there are a lot of great sticks out there. For example, Anthony Acevedo (sharkbait) and Jeff Tesoro (Charlie) are arguably two of the most knowledgeable Corbina fishermen of our time. I thank Anthony and Jeff for taking the time to teach me the ropes of "stealth fishing" for corbina. Without their help, I would probably still be blind casting for them.

There is also a gentlemen who goes by the name "Beta" who has caught some monster corbina this year (several 25" and 26" corbina)!

As for perch fishing, it is tough to beat the veteran Japanese and Korean perch fishermen. Year after year, I see these guys pulling in slabs after slabs in a consistent basis.

There are awesome fly fishermen as well. James (corbinafly), John (Whipitgood) and a veteran Japanese fly fisherman named Doug. These guys have so much experience between them and attempting to fathom all their knowledge would be difficult.

I have never met Bill Varney, but from what I hear, he is very knowledgeable at fishing Carolina Rigs with natural baits such as sand crabs, clams, and various worms.

Veteran surf fishermen have wide knowledge of surf fishing as a whole and each have their own specialties or interests. I personally target halibut as often as possible because I am trying to accomplish a personal goal (break the 50" mark). Some prefer to target perch and croakers with natural baits because that is what they are comfortable doing. Others like the challenge of "stalking" corbina with fly fishing gear.

Can someone be the master at every style of surf fishing? Probably not. I don't think a person could live long enough to "master" every aspect of surf fishing or any type of fishing for that matter.

Take for example bass fishing. Kevin Van Dam is probably the best crankbait fishermen on the planet. When it comes to fishing jigs, Denny Brauer comes to mind. Zell Roland is well known for fishing poppers. Bill Siementel is known as the big bait specialist of our time. etc...

I may "peeis" off a lot of people by saying this, but the truth of the matter is FNN isn't comprised of a lot of very knowledgeable fishermen (I say this in the most respectful manner). Most of the members on FNN are here to make friends, have a good time, and learn a thing or two from one another. It is more of a social network then a teaching and learning network if you were to ask me.

Take for example TEAM 57. A lot of people I know have asked me, "What is this TEAM 57?" From what I've gathered, TEAM 57 isn't a "team." Rather, it is a means of identifying one another as a fellow FNN member and not a group of hotshots trying to compete against other fishermen. As you can tell, Dana, Jeff and everyone else involved with FNN is all about good company, making friends, and simply enjoying themselves on the water and functions such as gatherings at SARL and Irvine Lake.

With this said, I don't think FNN is the place to label someone as the best this or that. There are tournaments to decide who is the best angler or team for that particular event or series.

I am working on organizing a surf fishing tournament organization (artificials only). A year long tournament in which anglers will fish up and down the coast for specific species at any given tournament and not some "open species" where overall inches dictate the winner. Once a few years of these types of tournaments are conducted, then those who want to label such and such as the best this or that will have the statistics to back their claim. Until then, we as surf fishermen are simply that, fishermen (not masters, yodas, jedis, gurus, kings etc... Why do you think I no longer use the screen name "halijedi?").

'Cause George Lucas dropped a seize & desist order on your heiny. LMAO!!! J/K

While your words are humble, of truth you speak. I'd probably be a cocky SOB if I had your skillz but fortunately, I'm not nor do I have the skills.

I'm excited to hear of your future endeavors. I do look forward to participating just to shoot the ****, meet avid anglers, learn & have fun.

As we speak, the seminar footage is being broken up into various segments. I don't think anyone wants to see a 2 hr 45 mins seminar "movie."

The segments will be broken up into 5-15 mins clips (depending on the topic being discussed).

Yeah, but he has no business writing an article about fishing artificials, right? LOL.
