Went to Long Beach yesterday for a few hours. Surf was mellow, water was semi clear, no weeds, slight breeze and the sun was shining. Couldn't get there until around 10am which was about an hour after high tide but managed to hook a few before I left at 1pm.

Lures used on this outing were the LCFM's in Zebra and Sardine patterns and a Green Mac pattern Krocodile.

I caught something big on the Kroc but it ended up straightening the hook and got away.

That is pretty cool. I am trying to figure out where you caught them at.

probably best you didn't have to mess with that one that bent your hook straight, unless you like dealing with bat rays and sngf. hardbait rides again.

Nice going out there. As Wingnut said, you did a lot better than us.

Were you using stocked hooks on the Kroc? I can't imagine straightening out cadium trebles? :EyePop:

Long Beach has been a love/hate spot for me this fall. Unlike years in the past, this fall has proven very inconsistent. I remember in 2005 and 2006, we were able to catch 10-30 decent sized halibut per person. This year, one day it is decent and the next it is dead. We need RAIN!

Thanks. If you ever get down there.... it will be obvious where I caught them at. :Envious:

I doubt it was either a sngf or ray, it felt like a butt with the head shakes and no long runs. I think I just probably over-worked it once I got it into the surge of the waves.

Thanks Tim :Big Grin:

Thanks, I didn't bring a tape measure with me and I don't think any were close to legal

How does the rain come into play when fishing for halibut?
