good day/evening FNN & Team 57 mbrs.

i have been in nor-cal in mckinleyville for awhile visiting my futer, and enjoying what beauty that country has to offer, didnt get to fish much but had a great day on the Mad river laying a clinic' on some tiny trout.

but back home now and enjoyed catching upon all of your fishing ventures, looked like you all had a good time, so i had to hit up some of my rock spots and get re-acclimated to where the 32&117degrees meet.

heard some top H2o action was going off so started early and decided to throw the LC in american shad first, not alot of action but ended up nailing a nice corvina, this is my biggest to date

super stoked on that i kept tossing for awile adjusting retrieval speed etc. (still learning these things) when bam...about ten feet out, this shadow of a fish arises from the depths of hell and smashes my LC. this fish runs out right peeling 8#izorxxxsmoke from my cardiff100, i turn her when she starts charging stright for me, im on my toes, rod up reeling like a madman when she buries into ths same whole she came from. im like "what just happend here" so as my line lay limp i walk left and lean into it-nothing, go right, the same. still shaking my head from such an adrenalin flip/flop and the sinking in of losing $15, i decide to tighten drag, reel in slack, extend, and lean back. well i feel her gills scratching away at the crevace shes latched to, a little more and wham....fights back on, this time theres no chance for romance as i jerk her out of the H2o and onto dry land for a brief foto-op and admiration stare, then i threw her back to mess with another day.

here she is all dirty

tossed a little more then bounced, time for lunch and maybe another spot if the winds were right, and they were. so at stop #2 i was drop/shotting the ever so reliable 3" natural shrimp gulp! cast for about 45 mins. for 1 dink spottie, and then this bohemoth' what a fight this 1 was, as the fish tried to get away a wave of little tiny bait fish flew out of the H2o about a foot away at all times, it was crazy. this spot has produced some of my best shoreline spotties, this day was to carry on.

after that episode i was super stoked, went by the cliffs and enjoyed the views before decideing where my next stop would be, grabbed a carne'asada from o.b. and headed out.

remembering this mornings LC fun a decided to throw a flash m. at stop #3, not 5 cast's into it i get hit like i had earlier.... from below, this was an awesome fight giving and taking, more towards the latter, until the fish is subdued, as you can see we wrestled in the grass for a bit aswell.

blown away at whats going on and the fish that are biting, i carry on, i keep casting, keep casting then wham im hit, explosions of froth glow orange from the setting sun. the fish jumps, slashes dives, then i land it, another corvina, not as big as this mornings but big to me none the less.

i toss alittle more but mostly just to watch the sun set, no more takers but time to reflect on what a wonderful place s.d. is and how sick the fishing is. im appreciative to the ocean and to my suroundings, glad to be back and enjoy being back online reading what you all are doing.

Cool report! Was this at SDH or MB? I've planned 3 weekends to fish down there the last couple of months but was never able to make it.

Jacky, Joe, Alan, Yong etc... you guys reading this? I keep telling you guys, we can LIGHT 'EM up down there with our bass fishing knowledge. Topwater Corvina, submerged grass presentations (same stuff used in the Delta during spring) etc... its like bass fishing from shore in the salt!

Awesome. I am all pumped up now. Can't wait to give my toys a shot at those shortfins.

Steve

I believe the Salton Sea orangemouth corvina and the shortfin corvina of san diego are slightly different species.
