Excellent reporting JapanRon. I bet that yellowtail stopped your heart for a split second! Youll get em on the swimbait next time. Nice bite on the mixed bag stuff though. Laters

Hi FishBandit,

Thanks. Yes .... my fishy came not 5 minutes after my buddy landed his fish !! I can still see that powerful tail send the fishy at a 45 degree angle towards the bottom !! Kinda remember it in slow motion !! Dang.

Still ..... I've caught quite a few firecrackers on the plastics but never a 20lb+ in Southern Callifornia !! Yet !!

Hi Trout Nine,

Thanks. I was using 12 or....... was it 8lb test fluorocarbon so I would have had a tough time if I had actually hook up with the boat crowded as it was !! I'm wierd ... a 6~7lb Calico would give me more of a thrill that a 20lb yellow !!

later,

Hi one_leg,

Thanks. Ms Yellow Cat was shocked and didn't know what to do with such a big fish. She sat by it and stared at it for at least 20 minutes before pouncing. She couldn't have eaten it all so I suspect that a possum may have come by later.

That cat shows no emotion to humans. She is feral and will just stare at me. I don't expect a smile or a thank you ..... more than likely she's thinking 'where's my next fish'?

At least now she's recovered from nearly starving to death !!

Hi supasportkid,

Thank you.

I understand completely on the average or even above-average Rockfishing trips. It's not that easy to get excited and up to make a report. Way to man-up and confess !! ;)

Seriously ........ Just remember ...... our FNNers will be going out less ... the deeper we get into Winter so that every report will be appreciated more. At least that's my take and I believe the stats from years past will bear me out !!

As one can guess ..... lots of anglers are going out bugging and not fishing so even now we are losing some of our usual fishing posters (they'll post on the lobster board) unless they are doing both fishing and hooping.

Excellent writing skills! Plus your reports are detailed, informative--and with a bit of humor to "chum" the reader. . .you've also convinced me to "cheat" on my usual landing--Marina Sportfishing & The Enterprise--and "make a date" with Pierpont & The Victory! Also, as a new "contributing" member, I must say that you--and the other FNN'ers--have mad fishing skills--real--not imagined--as was the case with my "ex-website"--FBN(stands for "Fishing BS'ers Nationwide"). These boards are bursting with guys telling Fish Stories that don't "smell fishy!"

Hi one_leg,

I'll be on the SoCal too with the Winter season and all. Some days I can't take the earlier 3/4-day and will jump on the SoCal.

I'll PM ya when I know I'm going ahead and ...... well anyway I'm PM you.

Lots of great info Ron. It must be quite rewarding landing a 22lb yellow on a swimmie. What # test was your buddy fishing with? It’s also good to know that the calicos bit better on the plastics. Glad u had that much action fishing the artificials. Thanks for reporting!!!

Hi russ88,

Thanks,

He was using 20lb test on that outfit. That guy just has super-talent and consistantly outfishes everybody bait or whatever. I gave up ...... even in a little less-than-really-serious friendly competition...... as he is so overwhelming. :)

What kills me is I'll start catching on something and he'll switch from bait and outfish me species, number, and grade !! :)

Yes .... it was great to catch as many Bonito as I wanted. Stopped fishing for them when I saw that others were loading up and might not take them off my hands. Spent 70% of my time fishing for Calicos with decent success.

Hi Klymons,

Thanks. I always try to add something that might interest readers other than the 'llok what we caught' and am lucky enough to have the time to invest. My investment earns me your good will to make reports I can read.

And I don't mean the slap-in-the-face wise-guy reports that are all of one sentance. One not-much-of-an-angler wrote something very close to ... 'went out to the kelp, slayed the fish, came home' ..... no punctuation, captilization nothin' ha ha ha

Hi Pineapple Experess,

Hummm I must have got my words tangled. Actually I've caught a whole bunch of yellows, none this year, on plastic. Unfortunately ... most of the critters were firecrackers.

Thanks for the reply....... and one of YOUR last EPIC trips !!
