Red Drum

Went out fishing Thursday 9/25 aboard the “Big Drum” with Jason “jscrib” and Dave “night8hawk”, to do some trolling in the warmer water off the backside of the west end of Catalina, in hopes of hooking up on a Striped Marlin.
After trolling, trolling, trolling, trolling and some more trolling, we threw in the towel for a couple hours and tried out some critter fishing.
Here is Jason and Dave with a nice Sheephead and Halfmoon.

After messing with the nearshore critters, I moved out to a Rockfish spot that I hadn’t tried in probably 3 years. Fortunately, there was a big school of Vermilions on the spot, and they must have chased all the Copper, Blue and Olive Rockfish off the spot. I can deal with that anyday.
We had really good fishing on tasty Reds and some Lingcod….oh and a couple of the endangered Bocaccios.
Jason with a nice Vermilion Rockfish.

Here’s a pic of the catch o’ the day. A limit of Vermilions and four Lingcod. Sweeeet!! Sure wish they’d bite that good everyday.

We trolled again for a couple hours for nothing…well maybe next time…then we heading back to the main land to catch a couple Bass during the evening bite.

Although we did not get our main target specie, we all had fun catching a bunch of taco meat. Yumyum!! I can’t wait to go again. HOOK-UP!!
Till next tide,
