Today I wanted to get up early and be on the water when the sun came up but couldn't wake up that early today haha. But i did arrive on the water at
7:30 a.m. I use only one lure today and that was a 4 inch fish trap swim bait. I was chucking it on 12lb. test, now I know that sounds way too thick and I think it is. I normally do not pass 8lb. test but unfortunately prior commitments unnabled me to run out and by 8. Anyways, I was slow trolling and fished for a total of about 2 hours. My first catch was a nice halibut (still not a legal yet) that gave me a nice fight. His head shakes were out of this world haha. After another long cast, I was retrieving the fish trap slow and caught a strike. I instantly set the hook but it didn't feel like a halibut. This fish pulled all the way to the end. when i started to see the color, I realized that it was a spottie, my first. I could not be more excited even though he was 11 inches he still gave me an awesome fight and caught a new species. I'll be back later for his mama haha. Good luck to all.
