View Full Version : Yft on the legend-1.5 day

I left for San Diego Monday evening to get on the Legend which had 27 passengers. WE left the docks about 10:30 picked up some bait which was beat up and headed for the off shore grounds. I woke up about 6:00 went out side and saw we were passing patty after patty and wondered why we weren't stopping, the deck hand indicated the water is to cold 60 degrees and we wouldn't catch what we came for if we stay. So the Captain told us we will be at the fishing grounds about 9:00. The weather was great flat calm. We stopped on our first patty and it payed off I landed 1 Dorado and 1 Yellowtail. Sorry no pics they dropped the fish when I went down to get the camera. We started trolling around for a while somebody yelled hook up and I got this YFT on the slide.

We continued to troll for a few hook ups for YFT on the troll and the next few kelp Patty's produced a lot of baby yellowtail and bonito. We ended up stopping on a trolled fish that broke wide open on YFT I got sawed off twice at the boat but did manage to land one more YFT.

Over all it was a great trip even having to work hard with the bait being beat up and not wanting to swim.
I ended up with 2 YFT, 2 Yellowtail, 1 Dorado and released a bunch of baby yellows,skipjack,and bonito.
976-Tuna Boat total : 73 Yellowfin Tuna 15 Skipjack_Tuna 40 Yellowtail 5 Dorado
FISH WEIGHT
Yellowfin Tuna - 25-40
Yellowtail - 8-15
Dorado - 15-25

Way to go T9, sounds like you had quite a few bent rods in your hands thoughout the day! Congrats on asome nice looking tuna and what sounded liek an awesome trip!
