Hi, Does anyone know if there are boat services you can pay to take you lobster hooping.

Purchased some hoop nets last season and had no luck at the pier. I know kayak hoopers are pretty successful but I don't know how.

Perhaps there are private boaters that offer this?

thanks!

Thre is a sport fisher that takes people hooping....I remember seeing it on 976tuna. I cant remember the name, but it is limited load. Ithink it is local too, like redondo or something like that. If I find it, or remember, I will et you know.

Here ya go, it is the Cobra out of Channel Islands sportfishing in Oxnard, this is from their webpage:

September 27th - Cobra will be running his lobster/crab hoop netting trips. Friday and Saturdays nights at 5:30pm - $60.00 - Hoop net and bait provided. Bring your fishing rod!

Man they must have a crazy system because they would have to stop for about a 100 hoops? That would mean at best you would have 2 sets?

I am not sure of the specifics. I would assume they are limited to the max of ten nets per boat, just as we are? The web site said "a" hoop net is provided.

i rode the cobra and would not recommend it. I took my son for his b-day last october and they over sold the boat everyone gets 1 hoop you hang from the rail while the boat is on anchor ( except my father in -law and son, since they oversold the boat). and we pulled nothing but crab.

Hesbros - Thanks for the info. It's appreciated.

Ahhvtec - Can you imagine 100 hoops coming off a boat... It screams "danger zone" to lobsters...

Chris - Thanks for your feedback on the Cobra....

Let me know if anyone has any other ideas.. I'll going to try the pier tomorrow but I doubt anything will happen.

WHat pier are you planning on going to? I've hoop Dondo near the rock on my yak before and have caught bug. There have been ugs caught there as well but from poachers. You might give Dondo pier a try I've personally never caught lobsters ther but plenty of those yummy rock crabs.

Ricky Ray - Wow, thanks for the info.. I'll look into it.. I don't have that many friends who are willing to shell out $100 bucks for lobster hooping but I'll check it out. Thanks again..

Wildhorse - It's gonna be full house out there.. Good luck.. I'll be hooping tomorrow since the wife wants to spend some time together tonight.

I personally hate the piers (too many poachers) I only do it cuz gas is expensive. Since this year I have hook-ups I'll be hooping from my boat more.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AND BE SAFE OUT THERE

wow.. those are nice lobsters.. I was hooping at Redondo pier yesterday and it sucked big time.. Poachers all over the place..There were some pier officers that came by but didn't even ask for my report card.. They just told a few people not to fish in the non-fishing zones. I saw a few guys with poles with the lobster hooks..

The entire pier was packed and a very ugly scene...
