We finally got the boat back last night after having the lower unit rebuilt. Took awhile for them to get it done ,but worth the wait. If anyone needs some work done on a Merc, try B&J Marine in Pomona, Greeat knowledge, great work, and reasonable priciing.
Anyways, we decided last night we would take her out for a test run today. We launched from Dana Point at 0630, still not sure what we were going to do, offshore or local for flatties. There was fog alonf the coast but it was moving out quick with Sunrise. We got a generous scoop of bait from Joe at the bait dock, looking for advice, I asked of he thought we should run out for the YFT. His reply "Boy Eddue, if you want some tuna, I would go to the store and buy it"....Classic, but honest. So with those words of wisdom we headed to one our favorite Hali spots below the harbor.
I got the first and only legal flattie not long after we started out drift on a big hammer swimbait and 15 lb, what a blast, it was a 28 incher, so we had to add it to the freezer. We missed many Hali bites today, and a few came unbuttoned. We got one more short and the usual by product of bass while drifting.
By the way, by noon the weather went from clear and nice to foggy and windy, which did not help our drifts.
We talked to fellow FNN'er Chris and invited he and his group to get on some Sand bass that we had stumbled onto that wanted to bite. By the time we got all sety up the wind was blowin' and would blow us off the spot really fast. Sorry Chris. Nice new to you boat.
We were off the water at 1830.
Here are some of the pics. We did not Photo every fish.
