I started the morning at the Balboa Pier, the sky was overcast and the surf was small,6:15am. I was using one pole with this drop-shotted:

That one bag of minnows has netted me so far three short halis, a YFC, and a mackerel.
and hooked up this shortie at the surfline:

I had another pole with squid strips and pulled in this little batray:

There were a few snag fishermen also on the surfline and they snagged a fat spotfin when I was there. Left the pier at 9:30, hit up a few public docks for no love...When I got home, my wife had chorizo & eggs ready. :Big Grin:
