I finally got the boat back after two weeks in the shop. Short story: 4 new injectors, cleanout of the VST, 13 days in the shop, and $1,000.00!!!! GRRRRRRRRR>

We took off from Davies around 6am. The weather was weird as Andy(Fishinmofo) said it was yesterday. The sea was dead calm and it was overcast in such a way that you could barely discern where the sea met the sky!
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/P9123376.jpg

The boat ran like a champ!!! YES! FINALLY!!
Picked up a mixed ˝ scoop and were off to Long Point. Thank God for Garmin! We reached Catalina approx. 1 hour later and drifted about 200’ off L.P. I cast out a monster dine in hopes of YT and then I tied on a croc to my bass stick. As I was tying, I got slammed on the dine, and I swear it was the right kind. I don’t think I even hooked it, but the power of the run screamed YT. I reset a dine on that rig and after just a few casts w/the Croc, had the first Boney aboard. CPR’d.
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/P9123377.jpg

A few minutes later, I get bit again on the dine, and this thing pulled line like a YT. This time I was HOOKED! Then, as suddenly as he peeled line, the hook popped! Dang!!!!!

I must have caught 3-4 bones on the croc.

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/P9123386.jpg

The schools were on the move, but when u found em (about every 20-30 miutes, you could get a few.
My Bro-in-law Paul, went for bottom types, and nailed some average sized calis. All CPR’s.

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/P9123384.jpg

So I decided to try a plug, and the results were outstanding fun! Here is the green version (I lost a blue on the first fish on 8lb.)
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/P9123387.jpg

I nailed almost all of my bones on this lure. MAN is that fun watching em slam. I wanted to fly fish, but the bite was never really WFO enough to warrant it (for me.)
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/P9123388.jpg

I caught this sucker via a mid-air lasso. My cast spun once around his wing. It was pretty dang aboriginal if I do say so myself! LOL! CPR’d

His fellow birds that were just moments before sitting quietly on the beach, came flocking to his aid like a scene outta “The Birds”
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/P9123394.jpg

I went to a hefty blue-n-chrome Kastmaster for some nice action too.

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/P9133397.jpg

Two cool things: We saw this through cave
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/P9123389.jpg
as we were drifting in close, then my brother said, HEY! It looks like a bird, and I said, Hey, it looks like a cormorant! I Herby dub this, CORMORANT CAVE! LOL!
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/Cormorantcave.jpg

The second thing was that we saw a shark attack on the surface from about 50 yds away! Not sure what type, but we first saw some large (2-3lb maybe topsmelt or??? They were long, heck, maybe they were bones) fish FLYING en mass. They were greyhounding. My bro days something’s chasing em, and then we saw the dorsal as this thing mauled the school. He made quite a raucous and displayed his dorsal and back at least 3x as he boiled! He was maybe 6-8 feet in length. Pretty cool sighting tho.

All in all, I caught about 20 bones, and my bro caught a few and some bass 2 boot.

We kept several for bug bait later this month! Oh, and if you have hoops, I have a boat with bait! Let’s make a deal!
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l191/gregmadrigal/P9133399.jpg

The ride home was as good as the am. The boat cruised at 37mph, that's faster than I have ever gone bf on ANY body of water! WootWoot!

Nice going Greg, glad to see you are getting out there.

I am upgrading all my nets this year and have (I think) 7 or 8 of the old style hoop nets, with rope, floats ,etc... that I will sell you very cheap. I'll send you a PM, call me if interested.

Hey Madge.....lol, great job on the bones. Keep trying and eventually you'll get some yellows.
WSB are gonna be on the itinerary very soon. That is what I'd be getting ready for.
Bugs and Croakers at the Islands. Lots of shorts at SCI but less pressure than at Catalina.
You won't even wanna waste any time on the bass!

Paul got some nice checkers!

WHITE SEA BASS!!!

Thanks for the report. I'm glad your boat is running smoothly now.

Excellent post--detailed info & very entertaining! It sounds like you have a great boat! And now you have some great lobster bait--nice oily bonita(also known to be a great "secret" bait for catfish--and yes--stripers!) Never "hooped it up" for the spiny guys, but I sure would like to try. I'm sure somebody on these boards has some hoops--but no boat--and is ready to play "Let's Make A Deal!". . .
