Kayaked NPH again. Got to the bay at 6:20 am to overcast skies and hardly any wind. There was an incoming tide so I was expecting decent fishing. On my third cast I get a nibble but can't set the hook. I go on to catch two spotties and the smallest sand bass I have ever seen between the moored boats. I then get several bites but can't set the hook on them. I moved into the main channel in the area lower than the bait barge and caught a croaker and another spottie. I went back to the same area because I could see alot of bait fish in the water and caught a mullet(?). The mullet was pretty big and was the biggest fish I caught of the day. I got him in the top middle of the water column. On almost every retrieve back the mullet were biting my swimbait. I ended up catching another sand bass that put up an excellent fight. When the drift died so did the fishing. There were 4-5 other kayakers out, two float tubers, and a raft.

That was probably not a mullet. You best chance of getting a Mullet in the harbor is for 1 to misjudge his jump and end up landing in your boat.

I have snagged 1 briefly on a retrieve on the hard bait but it is my understanding they love City Dads Frozen Peas.

There have been a lot of short White Sea Bass in the Harbor lately so if it was hitting the Swim Bait I vote WSB!!!!!!!

Thanks for the report.

I thought it may be a baby wsb as well, I know they are in there. I won't be going out too often anymore since I'm a school teacher. I typically go to NPH during the summer. I was in a green/blue kayak...Maybe one day we can fish together.
