This post is a little late as it is my first and it took some time to figure things out. My boys(Greg and Geoff) and I went up to the Upper North Fork of the Feather River for a week of fishing. This was our fourth trip there since 2002. There is good access to many streams, creeks, and lakes via forest service roads. You can head out to one of the many creeks and not see anyone all day. You have a chance to catch Rainbows(stocked and wild), Browns, and Brookies.

We headed out at 5:30AM on Sunday 8/24 and arrived at about 5:00PM. We set up camp right on the Feather River. That first night it was canned stew for dinner. Then, it was fresh trout every evening for the rest of the trip. We each kept one or two stockers every day for dinner depending on how hungry we were. We released everything else. The fish we were keeping were between fourteen and seventeen inches. We were mainly using spinners and salmon eggs if it was getting late and we were looking for dinner.

This trip we mainly fished the Feather for a mile up and down from our camp site. In the morning the temperature was in the low 40's and in the early afternoon it was in the low 90's, so there was a 50 degree temperature swing. We would fish in the morning and early evening. In the afternoon we would get in the car and explore some of the creeks for fishing potential.

Geoff broke his favorite pole(7ft UL Shimano Clarus) in half on the second day landing his biggest fish(17 inches) when he fell on it. He was bummed out. But, I guess that is the price you have to pay for catching the biggest fish. My biggest fish was a 16 1/2 inch stocked Bow. Gregs biggest was a 16 inch Bow. BTW, the Osprey took more fish and were better fishers than we were. What a sight to behold.

On the last day we were going to keep our limits so we could bring some fish home. But, the fishing was tough that day. I managed to catch two wild Bows(which I released) and that was all. It was tough for the boys too. But, they managed to catch stockers for dinner and thanks to Greg I did not go without dinner.

As always we left with more places we wanted to fish and a larger itinerary than when we arrived. We agreed next trip would be for two weeks.

Here are some pictures of our dinner

Great pics, and the trout looks yummy! Is that a secret recipe or can you share it? I usually foil wrap mine with lemon, salt, pepper, butter and a little white wine. Thanks for sharing the report and pics, nice job!

There isn't anything I could say that would do justice as to how great they tasted. There is nothing tastier than fresh trout eaten the same day they were caught.

I'm going to have to try your recipe with the foil wrap. It has to taste great.

My boys are good cooks and cooked all the fish. I did the side dishes like various rice dishes and corn on the cob. They cooked the fish differently each day, usually in the pan with olive oil and butter. Sometimes they breaded them with corn meal. Once they cooked them on the grill. They used various combinations of spices each time from paprica, parsley, garlic, salt and pepper. The old man threw in some brandy once in a while. My favorite was when the only spices they threw in were salt and pepper. It seemed to bring out the wild flavor of the trout.

That Feather River area looks really beautiful. I'll have to check that out one day. Fresh trout while camping is the best. Thanks for reporting.
