Been awhile since I posted anything up on the boards, but I have been reading alot of great posts by everybody. Decided to get up early and head out to the 72nd Street Jetty for some solitude and fishing. Kids asleep along with the wife and off I go! Got to the jetty at about 0545 and set up shop. Water was real calm and peaceful and there was no wind, the start of a good fishing trip.

Set up close to the shore on the bay side and started off with double dropper and chovies. Caught this little round ray right off the bat. Then about a half an hour later caught this 14 inch flattie off of a chunk of chovie on the dropper rig. Though I haven't got a legal yet from this jetty this does trump my best hali from here at a weak 7 inches.:ROFL::Wink:

Anyways after that I was getting bit left and right but the chovies were getting soggy and coming off the hooks too easily. Caught little YFC and that pretty much ended the beautiful morning at the jetty as i had to head off and check out a demo sight for work. All fish CPR'd to fight another day. on a side note the Hali I caught had a split in its tail, looked as if someone had got to him first and netted him improperly.

Hopefully he lives to fight another day for awhile longer. All in all it was a good morning getting some fishing therapy in.
Tight lines, Aaron

Why would anybody need a net to land a short Flattie?!? Release them while they're in the water if you're on the rocks or slide them up onto the sand if you're on the beach.

Glad you got some relaxing fishing time in out there, thanks for the report. :Big Grin:

thanks for the report and pics.

it must be a nice feeling knowing you are the first and only one on the jetty...at least for a short while. There are some interesting ways to better your odds at landing legal halibut on the jetty...have you considered using plastics?

you're awfully brave for holding that ray in your hands like that :Big Grin:

Yeah I forgot to add that I was throwing a kroc till it got stuck on something and couldn't get it undone. I even walked 240 degrees on to the beach to unhook it from the back side with no luck at all. Bummer huh.

Hey, great job, Aaron! I have fished 72nd St. a few times with a zero fish count. I know there are fish there--as well as assorted goths with pink hair, miniskirts, and fish net stockings(and those are the guys!) I have seen proof that there are actual fish to be caught from this jetty/surf zone in Long Beach. But my total score for this area--including a tournament on "that other website"--has been less than zero.(Disclosure: One time I did snag a swollen plastic sandwich bag with a Lucky Craft. Does that count(LOL)?)

Nice feesh! 72nd street can be tricky. I haven't been down there since I caught a Diamond Turbot on the ocean side of the jetty last winter. I bet it's a little better now.

I gotta find a way to keep the hali's off the rocks. It's much harder said then done when on the jetty. Perhaps it is time to get a fish gripper..
