View Full Version : Peas and Corn from a Pier?

While fishing from the pier at Paradise Cove last week, I was told by one of the employees there that he's seen guys cleaning up off the pier using corn and peas for bait. He told me they catch "perch."

I assume they weren't catching BSP... but I'm curious. Buttermouth? Opaleye?

Has anyone here ever used corn or peas in the salt? If so, how'd you do?

Used to catch a lot of buttermouth and huge blues at Redondo with peas.

We used to use the green moss off the rocks down by Corona Del Mar. I think they see it as moss.

The owner at the Tackle shop in Malibu sells peas as bait. I've never personally tried them, but she claims they're great for many species, including ling cod when they're around. Again, I've never used them but she swears by 'em.

Give it a shot and report back with your success.

When I was a kid I use to fish the rock at Redondo. It's now fenced off :( but I use to use corn there on some trips and we would catch opaleye, and perch. Never tried the peas. I know some of the guys at the redondo sportfishing office have told me that they've seen guys use corn and peas off the landing's pier and have caught fish on it.
