What can I say but the Eastern Sierras are blessings from the highest of ALL-
Got to finishing work thrsday night and was ready for my 3day rememberance weekend. I called close buddies FA, uncle B, Trolly and a few of my longterm friends whom dont post but love all the reads the FNN has to offer..to get some legit spots to hit up for the short 2 day ride...with the information provided and my knowledge of hitting the lakes since i was in my younger years (lol) 16yrs... i stuck it...this time with close family friends, and more...
Left LBeach at 930...up to our condo and hopefully early enough to get a couple hours of fishing nearby. Arrived at the condo by 2.30pm Lots of CHP due to the holiday traffic...and noticed that there was the "W" in presence all around...nonetheless, safe and sound. We unloaded, relaxed and embraced the sights, smells and sounds that the eastern sierras has always offered..with enought daylight, i asked my buddy louis was down and without hesitation had rod and gear in hand. Kissed my lady goodbye, and said see ya later with dinner, lolz.
We drove by twin, which looked very enticing, but i really didnt' know anything about that lake. we stoped at a few spots to check it out, the Wind was in effect, saw lots of float-tubers doing their thing. After 30mins of chekcing the spots, with the W looking to make light casting difficult..I decided to go up more to lake Mary. From the hommie FA's info, this was the lake i should hit up. Once at Lake Mary, we found a good parking spot, and hiked down the shoreline of Mary. Beautiful structure, just like all the storeis/pictures gathered from long and short. I found a tree and set the lines out- the Scenery was wonderful (pics will all follow in sequence to story).
After telling stories to L and lighting turning into dusk, i get the first hit, FISH ON! Nice 2lb natural...C&R, and we went for more...then L gets a nice natural, we end up keeping it! By then it was time to head back before it got too dark...lol, b4 too long, it was already dark! ON the drive home we decided to order pizza. Our other caravan then showd up not longer than after we finished dinner...after a restful dinner and a movie, passed out to dreams of catching trout.
420am, alarm sounds and i make the wake up call...like dominos all 4 buddies, including our gf/s and more lol wake up. We were off to Convict by 5.55am lol,,, my other friends were like wth so early lol, and then reality hit and we were off together. Stopped at Mc'Dnlds and got to Convict at 6.20. Went to the tackle shop, and they said to rent check if any rental boats available. NP, got 2 outboards with 2 of us in each. We told eachother whomever gets on the fish, contact, and will all relocate (too bad our cell phones didnt work out there-cbs best bet!). afTER 2 hours of trolling we started getting hits, I got my first trout on the lead, using 1 of the recommended Rapala's. We got on the spot, and started circling, once ciricling Louis gets his first holdover on the lead- Then I was like hmmm...should i pull in ole faithful flatline with a tomas bouyant? nahh... so i drop my lead a few more colors for fun, and instructed Louis (his 3rd or 5th time real fishing) to drop a color or two as well. doing that I get another fish within 30 mins of the circle...we were then on the other side of Convict were there road you can drive stops...nice...we were then 3 fish deep, and were now trying more towards the middle of Convict. While taking scenic, memorable photos (more showing after story in sequence), i hear my bag (weighs about 10-15lbs with gera in it)/rod which I had gripped as a rod holder slide and hit the side of the boat...I quickly grab the rod, which pulled as if I were stuck to a bolder. But, nowhere close to shore. I set the hook, with no problem as the rod just dipped 30 more degrees and I had to grab it with my other hand. As i swung the boat to stop, then reverse.....i looked down, and noticed how fast this line was peeling out of my reel, when in reverse of the boat...i was in awe...i was getting spoooled...my new 8lb Trilene XL 300+ft off my abu garcia bait caster...and there was nothing i could do to stop this freight train as it headed towards the middle of...? who knows. I told louis to look at the rod, and pointed out that my line was about to get spooled.,, right then, it was gone. Told louis that this was going to be "one of those memorable moments you can only aquire if being there.
Then afterwards the Wind really started to kick in...the waves were a bit tough, as much caps were showing off and on, not to mention some RAIN! lolz i love the sierras...it was a PITA keeping the boat straight, bu we kept in line, until i cut off 4 colors of Louis Leadcore from the props/wind..sorry louis!Q! I then decided to do some bait fishing on the otherside of Convict lake- We baited down for a few hours which seemed like minutes due to the surroundings..the guys who boated next to us on shore got the"hole" and slayed at least 4 trout within minutes hahahah...good going..we then decided to finish the day trolling..
Ended the day at Convict with 5 sized trout in the 1-3lb areas. With that fish loss basically taking the entire event of the day. The W was really now starting tos how, and i told L that we were lucky to get some good fishing early in the day...
Sunday- woke up, checked out of the condo, and headed towards the "spot"/pond/stream, that buddy chris told...the W was in full effect, guss were at least 45-60mph..believe it or not. It was the most wind i've seen in awhile in the mammoth area... we got to there, and it was impossible to throw a line in the water without getting lost int he mist. With disgust, I decided to the n take our trip to Gull Lake..wow, whatta spot. No where to park tho, so decided to head to Rock Creek...The Wind was then like a howling wolf, and we upon reaching Rock Creek, my answers conqured that the W was less releveant there. After fiding a parking spot, we hiked and baited down...within 2 hours we caught 3 trout, and the couple next to us had been doing very well, and had more sizeable ones! By then it was time to head home, my other buddies were lucky to stay an extra day.
On the drive home, we ran into and got caught in one of "those dust storms" that you hear/read about. Made it through, luckily we had a clearing in the path,,,like a scene from a movie where the "light" shines through the darkness...we made it through...got caught briefly in the end..but still made it through..lolz...so windy that this was the first time we decided to not stop at the hatchery to feed the big-guns...
Got home late snday round 9pm-Upon driving from the gfs home I run into/pass the TROLLMIESTER on the 405 fwy/lakewood blvd exit!!!! lolzz i buzzed by, honking in the red vw golf..lol...thnks trollmeiser, what a blessing pal, i hope you got my message!!!
-wanted to fish the spot, but Wind was too bad, nextime for sure buddy~
Lake Mary, Convict, Gull-Rock Creek...thank you, and we'll see eachother REEL SOON! ;)
