Went down to Cabrillo Pier just as the sun was setting. Thought I'd try for a Hali. Rigged up a dropshot using an Owner Offset 5/0 worm hook with a Berkley 3" Shrimp.

After getting short bit so many times using the 5" jerkshad in the past I figured I'd try something different. Instead of using an octopus hook and nose hooking the shrimp, I went with the 5/0 hook so that the hook point was about 1/2" from the tail. Although that eliminated the "short bites", I also expected to only catch little fish with the little bait.

Much to my suprise, this legal butt decided to have a snack. Even more surprising was the fact that I caught it on my first cast using the shrimp!
That probably won't happen again for a while:LOL:

Thanks Steve. My son and I are looking forward to the boat ride:LOL:. Many times fishing on the public dock we have witnessed some action in a few spots within visible range of the dock. Maybe we can hit them up some day...

John,

Cruised out of the way last Tuesday to see if by chance you were at M st. I know now that school is in session that you are out on the weekends with you Son but I thought of you and took a peek to see if you were there anyway. If you were you would have been welcome aboard!!!!!!

We will make the boat ride happen, just a matter of our schedules to come into alignment.

Steve
