met up with the crew at 2:30am and left LA for the 2 hour drive down to SD. got to dana landing, found the boat, and after a quick introduction and safety talk we were on our way. we motored out to around the 302 and started trolling. after about an hour we picked up 5 albies, then the bite shut off. after cruising and hunting for another hour Capt Russel decided to take us to the Coronado's. We asked what we'd be fishing for, and the deckhand Ryan says "Maybe some barracuda or bass. Yellows if we're lucky." And we got lucky. yellowtail were boiling everywhere. we probably lost 2x as many as we got in the boat, but it was epic.
if you've never fished on the Impulse, i highly recommend it. great crew, great boat, and best of all, this boat is FAST. getting from spot to spot didn't take hours, which meant more time fishing. and Ryan was cooking up some good food the entire trip. Weather was perfect, seas where relatively calm. not one puker. awesome trip for sure.
more pics to come - i was busy fishing so i took very few, and then i crushed my camera against the rail. time for a waterproof little number.
