hi everyone,
what would cause a water pump to burn out and cause a 3.0 volvo penta i/o engine to overheat?

there's a provision in the engine compartment of the boat that allows a user to plug in a garden hose to "flush" (clean) the engine. do you run it when you "flush" the engine with freshwater or do you just turn the water on and the engine would flush itself out?

running the engine while the boat is on the trailer and running fresh water to flush the engine, will this cause the water pump to burn out?

thanks

nope, the water pump could have gone bad anytime soon if that...the flushing is like the boat sucking water to cool itself down and it will get water from the ocean the same way...

so you do need to run the engine while you flush it if its on a trailer ... right?

if you have it in a marina...then you can flush it tilted up....but,if you have it on a trailer its easier and you get to wash the salt off

There are any number of things that can cause overheating.

Does it overheat at high rpms only?

Have you ever replaced the thermostat and the impeller

If the motor was used in salt water and not flushed properly the manifolds are a definite possibility.
