View Full Version : Belmont Pier, 4 Casts = 4 Butts

Decided to do a little evening fishing at Belmont Pier today with my dad and Little brother. Set up mid pier and my little brother was first to cast, and off the bat he hooked a 12" Hali,

My first cast I hooked a smaller hali also, 2nd cast got me another hali, and third cast got me about a 15"-16" hali.

Thought to myself, I'm going to have a productive evening... I was waaaay off, after those 4 fish, the bites died off, few nibbles here and there nothing hooked, the seal must have chased away everything >:/

anyways, I was fishing a d/s with a 3 inch gulp sardine color. seems to be doing the trick for my rare saltwater fishing adventures

Thanks for the report. Just currious....Did you see any smelt or other baitfish hanging around the pier?

yeah many were jumping into the air, I fished right in that area when it happened for a few nibbles, nothing solid

Cool report. Haven't been to Belmont in about a year. It's my preferred pier to fish

Whats worse is that the yellows are WFO at the island, and youre getting 10 on the boat out of 40 hookups due to seals.....

nice on the hali. what size pound test where you using and rig? I'm new at the salt/pier/surf fishing. thanks :)

I used 10#, d/s with about 16 inches from the weight to the hook. #2 Red Octopus hook with a 3 inch Berkley gulp minnow in a sardine color.

Three days fishing there last week with the same setup, I caught a total of 9 Halis. Biggest one was about 17"
