MY WIFE TOOK THE CAMERA TO DISNEYLAND TODAY! SORRY NO PICS!
(apparently pictures of family at Mickeyland is more important then my fishing habit)
Fished the Balboa Pier from 7:00am-2pm.
After reading Sinjin Kim's post on targeting halibut from shore, I bought 3" Berkeley Gulp Minnows(Pearl White) and 6lb.Vanish flourocarbon line to try dropshotting from the pier. I used a 1oz. torpedo weight at the bottom.
Used two poles, one with cut squid, one with dropshot Gulp Minnows
My Fish Count:
2 Halibut (both short, on Gulp Minnows)
2 YFC (one on Gulp Minnows, other on squid)
2 Bat Rays (on cut squid)
1 Leo (on cut squid)
1 Mackerel (Gulp Minnow)
1 Shovelnose (cut squid)
My mother was fishing today too. She has never been on the pier targeting halibut before, so OF COURSE she hooks up a barely legal 22" halibut on a caroline rigged live smelt. That made her day....(thanks snookie for helping her)
RayO was also fishing with us, he just caught one butterfly ray with a live smelt.
All fish were released safely except for the legal Halibut(tacos) and one short halibut that accidently got released to an awaiting seal.
