"Croakers I'd Like to Poke"

Packed up the car and went to Mothers Beach today. Found the right size crabs with roe and went to the pier.

Started jigging a sabiki with a spoon at point. Watched in amazement as a shadow lifted off the bottom and snatched the spoon... only to come unbuttoned moments later. Wonder what it was; bass? hali? sculpin? Began working the other side of the pier and noticed a pod of four massive fish cruising in about seven feet of water. Couldn't tell if they were corbina or spotfin or what. They'd moved away by the time I'd baited up with the crab.

Cast a nice one out anyway and was rewarded with this one.

yet another personal best yfc! Guess it pays to catch dinks all the time 'cause I'm nailling a PB every trip now!!!

Next time we'll bring one rig with the sabiki/jigging spoon set-up, one with c-riged crab and one with a drop-shot (to fish peas and corn.) That way we'll have our bases covered.

Fun day.

Pokin' croakers. I just had a necrophyliac moment. Oh man, that was sick!!!

Holy Cow, that's twisted. You are in need of therapy dude........

Nice job City Dad. What a wonderful trio the three of you make.

Congrats on the new PB. I need to start landing some more PB's soon too.

Is this Mother's Beach in Long Beach? Regardless, good job on a PB yellowfin croaker. c.i.l.p is hilarious.

Too cool Tim, don't those YFC's fight harder than the BSP's? :Big Grin:

Ounce for ounce , I'd say they fight harder than anything ,
except corbina ..

It's actually Paradise Cove in Malibu. It gets that nickname (I assume) because it tends to be full of moms and their little ones.

Nice croaker! They do fight well. The last one leaped far when he bit the LC.
