I am heading up to mammoth over labor day, and I am going to do most of my fishing in the creeks. But after what happend at the Mt Whitney fish hatchery, I am worried that the population of trout in the creek has plummeted. Would this be true, or would there be other hatcheries to stock the creek?

thanks,

Stocking shouldn't be a problem. There are other hatcheries in the area. But stocking will be reduced with lower water levels. There will still be fish in the creek. Besides the stockers, wild browns makeup another large part of the population. I've gone days on the creek catching more or less 1 or 2 stockers, but dozens of small browns.

There will be plenty of fish, trust me. Most of the fish planted in the mammoth area come from Hot Creek hatchery anyway..they could not stock the sierra for 5 years and there would still be tons of fish

You could also try fishing the Owens river. It is not a creek, but it has an incredible amount of fish in it right now. Give it a shot!
