How about simple green? I usually use that on my rods and reels and also my cooler when I get back from fishing. Haven't noticed a "fishy" smell from my cooler since I started using it but then again I wasn't really smelling for it since I have a cooler dedicated for fishing.

I think attention is what she wants to get rid of. The attention of a hungry bear can be a pain in the Yak.

I heard lemon juice works really well.

I was thinking that you bring along a few lemons and cut them in half. Rub lemons onto surface of your Kayak. That should get ride of the fishey smell.

I use a lot of anchovies and herring for bait. Smelly as hell, and will stink up your kayak or float tube (and your trunk too, much to my wife's dismay, lol) for good if you don't use the right stuff. In my experience, the orange-based cleaners take the fish smell out the best. Just make sure not to use the industrial strength orange solvent degreasers on the wrong plastic. The detergent based ones seem safe for all surfaces.

if the yak smells so bad, THROW IT IN THE WATER.

OR HANG YOUR RASHIN ON TO A TREE, YO.

Do a search for "skunk smell" ...and you should get some recipes. If they work for skunk I am guessing they work for fish.

Seriously though... lemon doesn't work. Wanna know what does work though? Mechanics hand cleaner... or anything with pumice in it. Take your pick on the brand.. if you're really desperate.. try Goo Gone.

The thing with simple green is its a petroleum product and very very very oily. I think the warnings say dont get it on skin so...

Maybe another solution would work. Tomatoes? Hmm then the bears would definitely think Italian Dinner Time.....

Maybe a citrus based cleaner and then something afterwards.

Good luck!

NOT!!!!
Simple Green is Water Based. It does NOT contain petroleum distillates.
They use it to clean the oil off of birds, not make them oily.
It is also non toxic, non mutagenic, non carcinogenic, biodegradable, and none of it's ingredients are regulated or listed as cancer causing agents by the IARC, NTP, or OSHA.
SG does NOT deplete the Ozone Layer.
Citrus extracts are suspected of causing cancer. They contain Terpenes.
When mixed with Ozone they create formaldehyde.
I'd give Simple green a shot. Better than carrying around a case of lemons.
Unless you also have some drawn butter and a bunch of lobsters!!!

Mike, is that what you use to stop the keys on your keyboard from sticking?

Not sure exactly where the smell is coming from.
Fish on a stringer--try a basket instead.
Livewell--use Simple Green (biodegradeable and non-toxic) at shoreline before exiting.
Storage area--Outside--Same as livewell.
Inside--Keep gear in those compression bags (not sure if will block smell
Check hunting gear for smell lock items
Rinse as livewell? If possible.
Outside--Simple Green or rub with dirt before exiting water

About all I've got at the momment.

Chris
