Senior ditch day was on Friday so my girlfriend and myself decided to take her brother and dad out on a boat. I suggested we take the victory because it's consistently had light loads. It was an overall good day. Took the long ride over to catalina. On the way, we had some dolphins riding along the bow. Yet, the coolest thing we saw on the way over was a huge mako shark just hanging out at the top of the water. Got to our first spot of the day just south of 2 harbors. Wide open on perch. I busted out my light bass gear and a small hook and started slaying the perch, they sure fight hard on light gear. It got so intense on the bite that at one point i couldn't even get my bait to the bottom. After an hour of filling up on perch, the captain moved us to another area to see if maybe we could get us some bass. second spot was sloooooooooow. just outside of white's landing. a couple whitefish and perch was all we caught there. so we made our 3rd and final move, just outside of camp fox. it was wfo on large bass, whitefish, sheephead, and assorted rockfish. My girlfriends dad had the hot hand with the whitefish. Her brother caught a bunch of small tree fish and a couple of nice bass.

My girlfriend was getting all sorts of variety: bass, whitefish, sugarbass, sheephead, perch. Her goal all day was to land a legal sheepy, which she did with this pretty nice one.

For me, it was all about farming the fish haha. I think i ended up farming seven fish that felt to be of decent size. I also lost a whitefish at the edge of the boat that had to be 24"+ long. Did pretty well on the sheephead too

Our final count as a total:

9 Calicos
4 Whitefish
20 Perch
1 Opaleye
3 Sheepshead
7 Rockfish
15 unknown farmed fish

Jackpot went to the only wsb caught on the boat, deckhands and captain guessed it to be between 40-45 lbs

Boy is that sheephead yummy, got home and cooked it up for dinner

Once I finish of what its mine and my girlfriends freezers, we will definitely head back out and try and get more of them big old bass.

Very nice- That WSB looks pretty cramped in that burlap!!!

Could you tell me how you prepared the Sheephead for cooking? looks like butter and rosemary?

Thanks and good work!

seasoned with salt, pepper, sugar, orange and lemon zest, onion powder and garlic powder. seasoned to taste. set in a pan lightly greased with olive oil and set above 1/2 onion chopped and two diced garlic cloves. preheat the oven to 350, cover the pan in foil and leave in for about 15 minutes.
