I am a biologist from Southern California working up here in Bakersfield with a few hours to burn in mid day over the next few days. Any recommendations for any local canals, the Kern or any lakes around here. I am staying at a hotel near the 99/SR-178. I don't have enough time to drive too far.

The closest place to fish would be either Truxton Lake, which is by truxton and coffee? Another lake would be riverwalk; that one is on stockdale hwy and buena vista road.

There are two more lake farther down east on the 178, Hart Park and Lake Ming. Anything farther than that would be the Kern River to the East and the California Aquaduct to the west.

Thank you very much. I went to Ming yesterday...it was bunk. Two small blue gill. I tried the River, but it was not too exciting in the couple of places I got in to. I am going to try Hart and some different parts of the River.

I wish I would have read this earlier, I totally would have gone to Hart. How did it go? I may be there tomorrow.

Today I went up just a little way up the River a few miles up the canyon. I was fairly happy with it. I had about 7-8 small smallmouth bass, and one great fight from a Decet sucker.

I have a few hours tomorrow as well, I was planning to go back up the river, I will give it another shot.

I went by Hart today...ugh...alot of weeds. I also notcied that some of the ducks seem to have a neurological problem.
